During current years, Zanjan province due to its exceptional conditions and location has experienced a quick pace in industrial development and changed to one of the important industrial poles of country. The province in its entire development path has been trying to attract investments in industry and mine sectors. Being located on the route of the transit road, accessibility to infrastructural facilities and equipment in both national and provincial levels and other relative advantages and potentials of Zanjan province have created ideal conditions for industrial activities and centralization of private sector’s investment. Also, in accordance to proper climate of the province, the main fields for investment in industry of this province include: Lead and Zinc, high-pressure electricity power, kinds of tire strings, textile, metal, building construction, food, cellulose, chemical and mineral industries.
The Best Capabilities and Advantages of Zanjan Province in Industry & Mine Sectors are as following:
- Existence of rich mines of granite, gypsum, silica, kaolin, industrial soil, Iron and … as the basic for establishing and developing mineral and industrial industries and sub-industries;
- Existence of metallic mineral sources and metal ore reserves for investment in extraction field;
- Existence of active industrial estates and also several under-construction ones in all sub-provinces of the province;
- Existence of infrastructural facilities including road, railway, electricity and gas;
- Main cities of the province are located on route of Tehran-Tabriz and Europe transit road;
- Existence of Skilled human force and high-educational and vocational training centers.
Industrial Estate Company of Zanjan province has been established in 1990 and started its activity with three industrial estates and now is activating with 17 industrial estates and 5 approved industrial zones. This company has established all infrastructural facilities in 13 industrial estates and zones and in other industrial estates various phases such as land purchase and designing have been carried out.
After merging small industries organization with industrial estates company, not only it has been possible for all industrial units tobe established in industrial estates, but also small industrial organization as a supporting body played important roles in establishing facilities such as coffee-nets, holding training and consulting classes in affiliated companies sites and etc.
Mine Sector:
Due to geological events various reserves have been formed in Zanjan province. At present, more than 169 mines with a reserve of more than 500 million tons have acquired their utilization license from Industry, Mine and Trade Organization of the province. Main mineral substances of these mines are lead, zinc, brasite, silica, industrial soils, feldesphate, gypsum, Iron and … .
Among active mines of the province we can refer to Anguran Lead and Zink mine, potassium mine in Iljagh (pickromerite), Iron mine in Surkheh-Dizaj, pearl and travertine mines in Dandy region, Granite mine in Abhar and Khorram-Darreh and silica (Top-quartz), brasit, prelite, feldesphat and industrial soils mines. Some unique specification and features of Zanjan province are:
*Existence of the biggest lead and zinc mines of Middle East; Gurveh-Gul and Mashpa Brasite mines, Granite reserves in Tarom mountains, passing of silica band from Sultaniyeh mountains, existence of very rich and extended of Feldes- pate mines, lime and clay reservoirs;
*Existence of Anguran lead and zinc mines in this province has made this province to one of the zinc poles of country and a great opportunity for establishing zinc sub-industries such as galvanizing zinc powder, zinc oxide and zinc-sulphate plants has been created . Anguran mine is one of the unique and rare mines from point of high assay metals.
Zanjan Sub-province:
Due to some legal limitations for developing production and industrial activities in Tehran, as the capital of I.R. of Iran, from one side and availability of infrastructural facilities including (Land, water sources, soil, roads, strategic location in the north-west of country, energy transmission lines, national macro-investments and …) from other side have caused a great potential for Zanjan province in attracting investments in industry sector. Some of important industries of the province are: Iran Transfo Company, Pars Switch Company, Iran National zinc and lead company.
Regarding mineral substances existed in zanjan sub-province we can mention Granite, Iron, Rubble stone, mullen stone, Feldesphate, Industrial soil,Bor and copper. Zanjan province with 51 mines, has located 30 percent of Zanjan province mines in its land. The most important mines of the sub-province are: mine in Ghareh-Gul, Potash in Iljagh, Granite ornamental stone mines in Haji-siran region. Abhar Sub-province:
Abhar sub-province has six industrial estates by the names of Hidaj, Sharif, Ofugh, Abhar4, Sultaniyeh, Sain Ghaleh out of which only 2 ones are ready for establishing industrial units. In accordance to the last census, there are 123 active large sized industrial work-shops and 8287 people are employed in them. Main industries activating in Abhar Sub-province are 20 food and drink industrial units, 36 textile industrial units, one tannery, bag and shoes industrial units, two wood and wood goods industrial units, Rubber and plastic industrial units, 16 non-metallic industrial units and 2 engine vehicles.
While comparing these industries, it becomes obvious that investment in textile industries is more eye-catching in Abhar sub-province.
Abhar sub-province has relative capabilities in infrastructural sector; if these facilities were developed from quality and quantity points of view, could have a real role in continuation, establishment and development of other industries. This province ranks second in employment and number of industrial units in Zanjan province.
During recent years, some parts of plastic casting company has been translocated to Abhar and some changes has been made in its products of this company, and now some new various plastic parts and pieces are produced in this company. Additionally, production line of some parts of Saipa Diesel Company has been translocated to this sub-province. Generally speaking, due to existence of infrastructural facilities in Abhar sub-province and also its specific status from geographical and political points of views and proper road connections with other regions, this sub-province will have industrial development in the near future which will cause investment in this sub-province very reasonable and justifiable. As a sample for our claims, the highest centralization co-efficient, which equals two, belongs to Abhar sub-province.
Food, non-metallic and metallic mineral industries are three more developed industries in Abhar sub-province.
At present, 42 percent of rural industries and created job opportunities are located in Abhar sub-province and also the highest location centralization coefficient of job-creation capacities, which belongs to 2.5, belongs to this sub-province.
Capabilities and Potentials of Abhar Sub-province in Industry Sector:
- Being located on transit road, free-way, railway and …;
- Vicinity with important industrial provinces of country especially Qazvin and Tehran;
- Existing of strong industrial production units in textile, automobile parts and non-metallic mineral industries;
- Availability of electricity, gas and oil transmission network;
- Having high water potentials and proper capacity in mine sector;
- Most suitable background for establishing processing industries in agricultural, gardening and livestock.
Abhar sub-province has 45 mines allocating 26 percent of mines of the province to itself. There are 13 silica mines in Abhar sub-province and more than 700,000 tons of silica is extracted from these mines per year; which not only supply the province needs to this mineral substance, but also provide some parts of needs of other provinces too. Additionaly, this sub-province has 6 Iron ores mines, for example Surkheh Dizaj iron and pearl mine, and is considered as the highest producer of Iron ore in all over of country. Some other mines of this sub-province are Granite, industrial soil and Kaolin. The most important mines of this sub-province are Qiziljeh Shahbulaqi, Tahmasb-Abad, Kelangraz and Chalchugh Qizilchough silica mines, Govader and Khoransanlow granite mines.

Khoda-bandeh Sub-province
Regarding to industries established in this sub-province, we can refer to Khoda-bandeh cement plant. The constructional operation of this plant has been started in 2009 and its capacity is 2000 tons per year. Located in 12th km of Gheidar town, the company has started its first stage production utilization by means of machinery purchased from Shahrkurd Cement Plant. The needed clinker is supplied by the plants located near to this plant. Additionally, Zanjan cement plant capacity is 1800 tons per year, which will be started up in near future.
Khoda-bandeh sub-province has 15 mines, including 8.8 percent of total mines of Zanjan province. The main mines of this sub-province are: raw substances for cement production, silica, gypsum, salt, rubble stone and one lead and zinc mine. About 750000 tons of mineral substances is extracted from Khoda-bandeh sub-province mines and main part of these materials are cement production raw material. Silica is the second mineral substance extracted from mines of this sub-province and is in second rank after cement production raw material. The most important mines of this sub-province are Arqin 1&2 cement raw substances mines, Dehjalal and Yengejeh silica mines, Gumoosh-Tappeh lead and zinc mines and hydro salt mine of Saeed Mohammad. It is better to know that, little studies and extraction operation has been done in mine sector of Khoda-bandeh sub-province. Specifications of mines of this sub-province are as following:

Large sized companies such as cultivation and industry are activating in producing and yielding Kinds of fruits, poultries, milch cow and …, for example Minoo company. Pre-fabricated Madan-Karan Company is activating in producing some mineral products such as silica and pre-fabricated bricks. The industrial estate of the sub-province has been established in a land with an area of 305h and is read for new plants establishment.

Tarom Sub-province:
Regarding industry status in Tarom sub-province we can refer to workshops activating all over it. Among these workshops, 35% is activating in welding and aluminum, 15% in wood and the remaining in non-metallic industries (Building construction).
Gilvan olive oil extraction plant, tomato paste processing plant and oil-extraction plant of Tarom industrial zone are the most important industrial factories of this sub-province. In accordance to surveys, Carpet weaving is current in 43 villages and there are 900 carpet scaffold in these villages where about 6.3 thousand square meters of carpet is woven. It should be mentioned that 40 percent of these carpets are silk and the remaining are general ones. About 2800 persons are employed in carpet industry.
Tarom sub-province has 5 mines, but none of them are active. The most important mineral mines of this sub-province are Zaj-Kandi Alunite with 80 million tons of alunite and 50 million tons of kaolinite which is an ideal field for investment for producing Aluminum from alunite. Other mines of Tarom sub- province includes gypsum, Pozzolan, sand and mountain gravel.
Additionally, there are copper and industrial soils reserves in this sub-province which are under exploration. Features of mines which have license are as below mentioned.

Mahneshan Sub-province:
There are 11 industrial units in this sub-province and in mine sector there are 33 ones which consist 19.5 percent of total mines of the province. The main mines of the sub-province are Anguran lead and zinc mine which is the biggest lead and zinc in the Middle East and the third active mine with 23 million tons of reserves and annual extraction rate of 700000 tons in all over the world. Among other active mines of this sub-province we can refer to feldespate mine of Moqanlow with 646740 tons of reserves and annual extraction of 10000 tons, mine of Ghareh-Gul with reserves of 8280 tons and annual utilization capacity of 1500 tons .
Tozlar Gold mine with annual extraction of 5000 tons, Travertine mines of Dandy region and Alam-Kandi mine of Iron. It is better to know that this sub-province has a high capacity in various mine sector including gypsum, salt, feldespate, Travertine, Copper, Iron, Manganese, Industrial soil, Lead, Zinc and Gold and reserves rate of active mines of this sub-province reaches more than 48 million tons.
Anguran Lead and Zinc Mine:
Anguran Lead and Zinc mine has been located in Mahneshan sub-province and in 135 km of the south-west of Zanjan city. The nearest village to this mine is Ghalehjugh village with a population of 200 and the nearest town to it is Dandy with a population of 2000. The length of the main road to the mine (Zanjan-Dandy Mine) is about 120 km and temperature diversity in day and night and also seasons is very high in mine located region. About 500 persons are employed in the mine and reservoir of mine is 23 million tons. Due to existence of Anguran lead and Zinc mine in this region, many industrial units have been established in processing and also producing ingot. About 4000 people are employed in this sector. Ijrood sub-province:
Due to existence of various mineral substances reserves such as silica, limestone, lime, Gypsum, Industrial soil, Bantunite, backgrounds are ready for establishing cement, Iron casting, ore fertilizer and building brick production plants. Utilized total mineral reserves utilized rate of this sub-province is 2,690,000 tons, and unutilized and non-active mines reserves is more than 6,147,500 tons. Main mineral substances of this sub-province are granite, gypsum, lime and industrial soil and total active mines are 9 including gypsum, rubber limestone, copper and iron. Since cement production plant has been established in this sub-province, so exploration license for exploring cement raw materials has been issued and its operation permit license is going to be issued.

Some industrial projects such as processing industries, food-stuff processing industries, flour production plant, and milk and dairy products processing plant, industrial slaughter houses for livestock and poultries, agricultural research center, agricultural tools and accessories production plant have been established in this sub-province. Additionally, some projects in industrialization of agriculture such as establishing pressured irrigational system, studying and establishing mud-dams for collecting and managing surface water sources have been constructed in this sub-province. General Specifications of Zanjan Province In Industry and Mine Sector:
- Existence of numerous natural advantages (numerous water sources, enough energy due to passing oil and gas transmission lines, rich mineral sources especially zinc, lead, industrial soils, kaolin with high assay, granite with proper quality);
- Large sized plants and factories activating in mineral and metal, chemical, pharmaceutical, food, spinning and weaving, construction, electricity and electronics, wood and cellulous industries and existence of necessary backgrounds and high tendencies to more development in these industries;
- Establishing refinery with the capacity of 25 million liters per day for producing kinds of gas-oil, white-oil and gasoline;
- Establishing Ore and Ammoniac processing plant with the annual capacity of 677 thousand tons of ammoniac in the first phase and 1073 thousand tons of ore in the second phase;
