The Islamic Development Bank President, Meets Iranian VP, Participates in Council Meeting of Al Mustafa Prize for Science & Tech

Chaired by Iran’s Vice President for Science and Technology HE Dr. Sorena Sattari, the Council comprises of a number of high profile Iranian officials including Iranian Foreign Minister HE Dr. Javad Zarif as well as representatives of a number of the most important scientific institutions in Iran and the Islamic world.
The meeting discussed issues related to the prize in the field of science and technology including nomination and selection criteria, institutions entitled to run for the Prize, in addition to the type and value of the Prize.
While in Tehran, Dr. Ali also met with H.E. Dr. Ali Tayyebnia, Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance, IDB Governor for the Islamic Republic of Iran, and H.E.Valiollah Seif, the Governor of the Central Bank of Iran to review the ongoing cooperation between Iran and the IDB Group and ways and means to further enhance this relation, as well as the status of the IDB-financed projects in Iran.
Dr. Ali, also paid a visit to the Iran Banking Institute to learn about its different activities and discuss possible cooperation between the Institute and the IDB Group, especially with the Islamic Research and Training Institute, a member of the Group.
It is to be recalled that Al Mustafa Prize for Science and Technology is the highest Prize offered by the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the distinguished Muslim Scientists who contribute in the scientific and technological arenas. The objective of the prize is to support and encourage the contributions of Muslim Scientist in the fields of Science and Technology, promote spirit of cooperation among Muslim countries in this field. The Prize is offered once each two years, and it
is open for individuals and institutions within the Islamic world. It is worth mentioning that IDB fully supports all activities that enhance science and technology in its member countries. In this framework, the Bank, since 2001, has been awarding three important annual prizes in the fields of science and technology aimed at appreciating and encouraging scientific progress for the sake of its member countries’ socio-economic development.
